What I’m Doing Now

Updated October 29, 2025 as the days grow shorter, colder, and wetter in the Northern Hemisphere.

Building (Codename) “Emerald”

I’m finally scratching my own itch, and building a Linux-friendly tool that combines plain text writing, real-time preview, import and export of popular book and document formats, and a clear, simple workflow from text to publishing.

It’ll be like Zettlr, Vellum, and Atticus combined–but more. And it will be free.

Building and launching this website

I’ve owned thinkhuman.com for 25 years, but my websites/writing/blogs have bounced around the Web. Now–and henceforth–I’m pulling everything together here.

Building and launching the Git in 30 Minutes website

I’ve just launched the free web version of my book Git in 30 Minutes: A Beginner’s Guide for Technical Writers. Right now I’m making rapid fire improvements as I learn more about MkDocs/Material and Github Pages (especially automating the workflow). You can see it here.

Continuing to abandon social media apps

In the past year or so I’ve left Twitter/X, closed my Substack account, and yesterday abandoned Instagram. The only real ‘social’ app I still use is LinkedIn, but that’s just for keeping up professional appearances.

This is a now page, inspired by Derek Sivers and his nownownow project. If you have your own site, you should make one too.
